CNY

Happy Chinese New Year, y'all. AKA Lunar New Year...because after all, its celebrated in similar fashion by other cultures other than the Chinese. Limited by the confounds of a hotel room, CNY celebration was reduced down to its basic essence - the hot pot. The idea of a hot pot is that all the family members gather round the pot and gorge, much like the knights of the Round Table congregated, but to feast rather than say, plan conquests. Mom made the call to grandma after the meal. I admire my mom's adherence to tradition some times. On many ocassions she would be the liason for my dad to the relatives, especially to my dad's side of the family. Its probably safe to say that my mom talks to the extended family more than any of us combined. Good thing she's a talker. I left the room before the phone got passed to me. I rarely ever talk to my grandma any more. So you'd think I'd take advantage of this special time and ask her how she's doing. But I didn't. I couldn't. I was afraid of hearing my grandma's straining voice and the concerned tone in her every word. So I chickened out. After all these years growing in the supposed emotion free flowing American society, I still have a hard time dealing with my own awkwardness when it comes to families. I bet I'd flunk the EQ test....

So more bad news keeps surfacing. If not more business going bankrupt, then its more record unemployment anncouncements. Yet in these times of crisis people still seem to continue to be divided based on nothing more than political point of views. Enough of the bickering and pissing matches already. You people are disrupting my good mojo!!!

stuff

Dang...why is it whenever inspiration strikes I'm not near a computer, and whenever I plop my arss down in front of the lappy, my mind draws a blank. Life's little ironies #523, I suppose. Ironies aside time sure has been flying fast! About two weeks left in 2008...holy smokes! Been busy running back and forth from Fresno to LA quite a bit. Picked up some deals via Black Friday and Black Friday part deux (keeping my fingers crossed for part tres). Attended my first Christmas tree lighting, ever, in Fresno of all places...guess them boonie towns still have traditional values. I was reminded that I've yet to attend a Christmas parade. Heck I've never seen the boat parades in Newport Beach, and I use to work there...argh. My crackberry is frustrating the hell out of me. Of the 3 months I've had it, I only got about 3 weeks of normal functionality out of it. I hate AT&T...all you iphone users are sucking up my bandwidth!!!

Wish I have more charming words but I don't. All I've got are some novice photos

dec'ed out Fresno city hall

Some gospel choir added angelic tunes to the festivities

Guess how many marshies I had in my cocoa?

Let there be - light!

Guess who decided to show up...

Guess how he showed up...so much for reindeers

If only there are snow flakes this size in the air. Soon enough...

Happy holidays! Peace out!

SF photos

Dang...it seem parts of the Xanga world has seen the pix I uploaded even before I officially post them on my blog. Nevertheless I will still post them here. It was an impromptu short trip to SF. My first trip since 2001, where IBM so graciously hosted my stay (that's another story)...wow, seem like such distant past. I can definitely see why Bay area residents love this city so. But I'm really curious as to how people get around the parking issue...goodness.

Downtown SF (financial district, I think?)

boat dock at pier 39

replica of cable car...which I didnt' have a chance to ride on :(

I love GOOOOOLLLLLLD

A real life Left-orium, to add to the eccentric quirky vibe of SF.

Speaking of eccentric...here's man with Punisher t-shirt, taking his Python for a walk.

These seals are hogging some of the most expensive real estates in CA...just for lying around!

this street artist got some uncanny mad skills with a spray can

Baking reptiles at Boudin Bakery

The plaque behind me was inscribed by Dr. Sun Yat San back in the early 1900s, when us Chinamen were slaving away to build rail roads for the Man.

And yes, I *heart* SF...haha

That's all I got for now, cause I'm THAT lazy. Plus, my dumplings are getting cold. Happy hump day y'all.

Giving props to Props.

So here we are, 3 Pres. debates, 1 VP debate, countless caucuses, many SNL spoofs, and a 30 minutes ra-ra ad later...we are 6 days away from the Presidential election. While many of the polls seem to have Obama in the winning. It's not impossible for things to turn around unexpectedly. Many analysts are scrutinizing the validity of the polls, pointing out that people behave differently to polls vs. in voting booths (I kinda assumed polls would be taken anonymously? hmm..) Or that the Obama campaign may get complacent and let up instead of going for the kill. All valid concerns. I just know that if the fate of this election falls on those of people I know, Obama would be the clear winner (based on informal personal polling ). Which makes my still yet indecision all the more frustrating. With all the attention on the Pres. candidates, it seems to me the State Propositions are losing some well deserved attention. We got some important issues at hand here...I can't say I'm all that familiar with all 12 Propositions - only those that caught my attention...

Prop 1A - proposes building an electric train that'll transport people from LA to SF in 2.5 hrs.  This should be a win for CA as a whole. Kinda long over due if you ask me...I mean even Taiwan has TPE connected to KHS via high speed train. I wouldn't be surprised if it had encountered much resistance from the airlines like Southwest. Although it will cost 10billion and we won't enjoy the fruits of this labo for a couple years, I will still most likely vote in support of this. I'm not sure how I'll feel about them bay area hippies lurking in our midst though...

Prop 2 - As far as I can tell, it imposes stricter requirements on clean energy on investor owned utilities and even utility companies. Makes me wonder what further requirement can be imposed on utility that supposedly deliver clean energy...Also makes me wonder why some high profile environmental groups are actually opposing this prop. This one needs further looking into...

Prop 8 - The ever revolving same sex marriage merry go around. I think the Proposition is structured somewhat backwards...voting YES will amend CA state constitution with the following words "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.". So really a vote of NO is in support of same sex marriage, or as I see it, the choice to marry whom we want to marry. So I will vote NO, in support of choice. According to my married friend - gay people the same rights to be just as miserable as the rest of us

On a lighter side...Halloween is upon us once again. What are YOU dressing up as?
